| | | #10-TRINITY RIVER PARK Price: $14.00 This pattern is a comfortable surprise. It looks like a skirt, but is really pants. You get the best of both! The fitted waist yoke has a back zipper and just enough elastic in the back for breathing ease and eliminates extra bulk around the waist. The fabric is softly gathered into this band and continues into wide legs for graceful movement. There is also a 2nd layer attached in the side seam and left loose in front to form a front drape. When cut at mid-calf length, the drape is left loose at the hem and moves like a skirt creating “the best of 2 worlds” . . . pants that look like a skirt. For an alternate look, hook the end of the drape to the yoke and you get a more controlled look. Perfect for travel, casual wear, or work. If you are up and down a lot and pants are not always appropriate, then do look at this possibility. When the pants are cut long, the legs and end of drape are secured into a cuff.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | You may be thinking this design is a good idea, but don’t think you could wear it because you have a tummy? Take another look. The waist is smooth. Because of the loose drape, movement is added down the front of the garment. People DO look at movement and it creates visual illusion. You could wear these pants with a soft long jacket, long tunic vest, or a more fitted jacket with soft flare at the hips. Something beaded for evening would be great. For a small lady pick a short jacket or curved vest. The short pants look wonderful with boots. Wear with a turtleneck sweater and add a large shawl or tie a hand painted scarf around your neck. | | | | |
 | Cut yoke from muslin and fit it to your figure. No 2 of us are shaped alike. This will be your personal yoke pattern piece. The crotch is shortened or lengthened at gathers. All other fitting adjustments are done by moving side cut lines in or out as needed. These are not meant to be close fitting. You want them to look more like a skirt than pants. Because of the style and easy construction, they size up or down very easily.
Choose a soft medium to light weight fabric with a very good drape and tight stable weave suitable for pants. If the fabric is too crisp or heavy and doesn’t drape well, the gathers will stand out at your hips and will not be flattering. Also, the wrong side of the fashion fabric will show when the drape moves. You will need a fabric that looks good on both sides. The fiber types (cotton, rayon, etc.) or fabric weaves (challis, crepe, etc.) are not as important as the drape and movement when choosing your fabric.
