| You will check the neck and cut smaller if needed. The front and back panel seams are not shoulder seams. There are no set-in sleeves, just shoulder and side seams so sizing is very easy. Check pattern measurements and when cutting, move side seams in or out as needed. If you are a small lady and the front and back panels are going to be too wide for your figure, then you will cut them more narrow and continue with side seam adjustments. The hem can be longer or cut more even if you prefer a straight hem line. This is a good design for all figures, and is really very easy to size smaller or larger.
Choose a medium weight fabric with a stable weave and soft to medium drape. This could be any fiber or fiber blend. I personally prefer the natural fibers such as cotton, rayon, linen, silk or light wool because of the ease of sewing and the wearing comfort. The type of weave could be flat or textured. You might choose a crepe, wool challis, washed linen, or a textured poly or smooth woven cotton. Don’t pick a fabric that is sheer or real slippery. There are hem facings and a slippery fabric could cause you a lot of trouble. Also, I don’t recommend knits unless it is a very tight knit with not a lot of stretch, such as wool jersey. I like to combine several types of fabrics in one garment. When doing this, think about where each fabric needs to go to ensure the most wearing comfort. When picking fabric for the pants, pick a nice light weight pant fabric. Also try to pick one that will take a good press. The 2 large pleats need to have a good press to look their best.
