#17-WILLIAMSBURG
Price: $14.00

This 3 piece pattern continues to be one of our most popular designs.  The soft jacket offers so many opportunities for creative sewing.  The front and back center panels make perfect “canvases” for embroidery, trapunto, piecing or just highlighting a special piece of fabric. The neck has a curved sweetheart neckline that adds a feminine touch and is flattering to everyone.  The sleeves are ¾ length. The jacket is designed for soft comfort without being oversized. The side panels are cut on the bias to ensure easy movement and relaxed drape. The front and back panels overlap side panels and are left loose at hem for movement.  The jacket has a graduated hem line going from shorter in front to longer in back.  There is a lot of top stitching to highlight the design.  The vest option follows the jacket design.

Williamsburg - Pattern #17

The pants are wide-legged pull on with back elastic and inseam pockets. The side seams are meant to fall just in front of the hip allowing for easy pocket access. Also, by moving this side seam forward a little, you will look just a little bit thinner. A little illusion doesn’t hurt!  The front of the pants have 2 large fold-over pleats. These pleats should each be at least 6 inches wide and meet at the center seam. If you allow the pants to have enough ease for movement, then these pleats will hang straight down from the waist and will not pull at the tummy and they will look very much like a skirt. The pleats are secured with Velcro and can be adjusted slightly when needed.  There are 2 front belt carriers and a tie for added detailing. The waist folds over to form a self facing.  My favorite pair of these pants are cropped to just below mid-calf. At this length, these wide-legged pants look even more like a skirt. Very comfortable for work or travel.

Sizing
You will check the neck and cut smaller if needed. The front and back panel seams are not shoulder seams. There are no set-in sleeves, just shoulder and side seams so sizing is very easy.  Check pattern measurements and when cutting, move side seams in or out as needed.  If you are a small lady and the front and back panels are going to be too wide for your figure, then you will cut them more narrow and continue with side seam adjustments. The hem can be longer or cut more even if you prefer a straight hem line.  This is a good design for all figures, and is really very easy to size smaller or larger.

Fabric Suggestions
Choose a medium weight fabric with a stable weave and soft to medium drape.  This could be any fiber or fiber blend. I personally prefer the natural fibers such as cotton, rayon, linen, silk or light wool because of the ease of sewing and the wearing comfort.  The type of weave could be flat or textured.  You might choose a crepe, wool challis, washed linen, or a textured poly or smooth woven cotton. Don’t pick a fabric that is sheer or real slippery.  There are hem facings and a slippery fabric could cause you a lot of trouble. Also, I don’t recommend knits unless it is a very tight knit with not a lot of stretch, such as wool jersey. I like to combine several types of fabrics in one garment. When doing this, think about where each fabric needs to go to ensure the most wearing comfort.  When picking fabric for the pants, pick a nice light weight pant fabric.  Also try to pick one that will take a good press. The 2 large pleats need to have a good press to look their best.
