#2-GRANT PARK

Description
This interesting jacket changes with each fabric used and each way you drape or button the collar. The fabric weight and drape will determine how you will wear it. The collar can be worn draped, waterfalled, double-breasted, buttoned high, buttoned low and so on.  The pattern piece is a large unusual shape and when using wide fabric, one half of the jacket body (front and back) can be cut all in one piece.  Once you are through looking at the pattern, you will be amazed to see how VERY quick and easy it is to sew. It is unlined and generously cut with roomy sleeves with dropped shoulders. Pockets are included.  It would make a great serger project. Also an excellent gift project because of quick sewing time.

Grant Park - Pattern #2

Sizing
This is a roomy jacket designed to have 8-10 inches of ease. Because of the unusual pattern shape, it is surprisingly easy to size up or down.  To adjust shoulder width smaller, all you do is take in the center back seam.  For larger ladies, add to the center back seam. All other adjustments are done in the side seams.  Hem lengths are done at the hems.  It looks good on everyone regardless of size.

Fabric Suggestions
Choose a fabric that is attractive on BOTH SIDES because both sides will show when worn. There is over 3 years of fabric in this unstructured jacket, so don’t plan on lining it.  Pick a fabric with a tight even weave. Any fiber blend will work. You could choose anything from coat wools, ethnic cottons, medium weight polys or rayons, to sheer silks.  The weight and drape of fabric will determine how close the garment will hang and drape to your body.  For example, the heavier or stiffer, then the farther it will stand away from your body and have more of an “outer wear” or coat feel and look; the lighter, softer and drapier the fabric, then the closer it will hang to your body and will create a softer feel and a more draped look.  I do not recommend most knits, however, a tight knit with very little stretch such as a jersey would work. Although I recommend using tight weaves, this pattern does work very well with hand woven fabric.  These fabrics are not as tightly woven as commercial fabrics, however, they are soft and have wonderful drape, creating an excellent marriage of fabric and pattern design.
