Description
How many times have you gone into a specialty store, a trendy vacation boutique, a “better” department store, or look at one of those “casual but stylish” mail order catalogs and wished you could find a pattern for those simple little dresses? When you looked at them closer, you noticed they weren’t always that simple. There was often just a little something about them that made them stand out from the ones you saw in the discount stores.  The design or “cut” of the dress was just a little bit special and the fabric was great.  This pattern offers you all this – and more!

This long-sleeved A-line dress features a scooped neck and a roomy set-in sleeve with a buttoned cuff option.  The dress is designed to have gentle gathering or slated bust darts at the large sleeve holes.  The sleeve is cut in 2

pieces with a little gathering at the elbow for detailing and comfort. There is a back tie for gentle shaping.  There are also front dart or tuck options for under the bust to add more shaping if desired.

In addition to the dress pattern, I have included something to “play” with.  I have included 3 apron or jumper designs that can be worn over the dress or then can be worn as sun dresses with T-shirts underneath.  OR, if you just need a really good apron, then these are perfect!

“Bib” Apron #1 – It has wide shoulder straps, front bib, and waist band that buttons comfortably in the back. The skirt is A-line. Everyone needs pockets, so I have added what I call “cowl” or draped pockets that are incorporated into the folds of the apron skirt.

“Button” Apron #2 – This apron has wide straps that are softly pleated into a sweetheart neckline.  The A-line skirt has down the front buttons. There are large patch pockets with pleats at the bottom.

“Wrap” Apron #3 – This one goes on over your head with the back piece wrapping around to the front to button.  There are also pockets and a center back pleat for movement.

Sizing
The dress has large set-in sleeves.  Check the shoulder width and fold pattern at shoulder for shoulder width adjustments if one is necessary. Move side seams in or out when cutting to size smaller or larger.  This dress will adjust down smaller and will also size larger very nicely. Most apron adjustments will be done in the side seams.

Fabric Suggestions
For the dress, I suggest a medium weight fabric with medium drape and a tight even weave such as a washed linen or cotton broadcloth (ALWAYS PRE-WASH). You could use many different kinds of fibers from light wool, rayon to polys. Also, a cotton T-shirt knit or wool jersey would be great. These types of knits are tight, so they don’t stretch a lot.  For the aprons, you could pick fabric that is lighter in weight if the apron is going to be worn over the dress.  If you are going to wear the apron as a sun dress, pick a soft lightweight cotton fabric that is suitable for a sun dress.
