Description
Fabrics were limited during the early war years and women who wanted beautiful clothes had to stretch their imagination and creativity.  This gored bias cut swirl skirt with scalloped hem is a modern update of a style from those times that was so good it has become a classic.

Think you can’t wear a bias skirt? Well, think again! This skirt has an elastic waist for comfort and just enough soft gathering to slide over the hips and not be bulky. More fullness is gradually added as the gores continue widening down to the hem creating a circle. This eliminates clinging over the tummy and hips.  You can make the skirt from one fabric or each gore can be a different one. My favorite skirt is made from one fabric – black crepe – a good “basic” to wear with

everything.  You could wear it with a long loose jacket, tunic vest, long comfortable pull-on blouse or choose a short vest or tuck in a silk shell. This is a very flattering design for all figures regardless of your size or shape.

Sizing
Sizing could not be easier.  All you do is add or decrease gores to make skirt smaller or larger.  To shorten or lengthen the skirt, you trim the gores at waists, or when cutting, add to the gore at the waist.

Fabric Suggestions
Many different types of fabric work well for this skirt. The main thing to remember is the stiffer (less drape) the fabric, the further the skirt will stand away from your body. The softer (more drape) the fabric, the closer it will hang to your body.  I recommend fabric

that is light to medium weight with a tight weave that has good drape, but not a lot of stretch. Don’t use a knit.  Soft cottons, cotton flannel, rayons and rayon blends, ply blends, silk or light weight wool would all work.  A challis or crepe type weave is excellent. If you are mixing fabrics in your skirt, when choosing fabric, pick fabrics that are related in weight and movement so the gores will hang and move the same all around the skirt.
