Price: $14.00

Description
This wonderful park is in the middle of one of the most exciting and diverse cities in the world. San Francisco is a melting pot of people from many cultures and many lifestyles.  Together, they have shared, experienced, grown, advised, and encouraged.  Hand in hand, they have created a new culture and new lifestyle. With this one pattern, one that takes ideas from a number of different ethnic cultures and the Park Bench PERMISSION SLIP, you can design and sew a mini wardrobe that expresses what you want your personal style to be.

Golden Gate Park - Pattern #6

Our Patterns:

The jacket has a mandarin collar, roomy set in sleeves and a straight body with clean uncluttered lines.  There are optional front cut lines to encourage creative sewing. A simple piecing pattern and instructions are included.  The front opening has a recessed placket and optional china knot balls and loop closures.  And yes, there is a pocket . . . because we need pockets! The jacket can also be made into a long tunic style vest with side slits.  Then, the next time you use this pattern, try the roomy drop waist dress with optional front detailing. This can be simple pin tucking, straight stitch lines using a winged needle, or creative embellishing from your embroidery machine.  Inseam pockets are included.

The pattern includes straight legged pull-on pants with elastic waist, mock waist tie and inseam pockets.  They are nice pajama style pants for comfortable wearing.

For something a little more adventurous, I have included what I call a “dress-with-legs”! When this pattern was first printed, people didn’t know what to think about it. When we wore samples of it in fashion shows, they were fascinated.  It is basically a jump suit.  It isn’t as close fitting as what you may be more used to, but nevertheless . . . a jump suit. In this updated pattern, I

give you instructions for making it sleeveless and with a clean rounded neck finished with a bias finish.  It is basically the dress pattern with a roomy drop-waisted bodice. The full skirt gathers into leg bands. This large relaxed style is perfect for casual wear.  Imagine lying on the floor in front of the TV, curled up on the couch reading, lying by the pool or under an umbrella watching the waves after you have taken a swim.  If you are driving across country on a trip or live where the weather is hot and humid in the summer, then this design would be great.  You could also make it with the mandarin collar and long sleeves if you prefer. Whatever you can dream up, I encourage you to try!

The last option is the gaucho pants. These are made from the bottom or skirt portion of the “dress-with legs”. They have inseam pockets, elastic waist or a waist band. The legs are full and are gathered into leg bands. Tuck them into boots and you have a traditional gaucho look. The fabric should softly puddle over the leg bands.  This gives somewhat of a harem skirt look.

Sizing
This pattern is designed to have at least 8-10” of ease in the side seams. You should check neck opening width and adjust if needed.  There are also roomy set-in sleeves.  Check the shoulder width. If you need to make the shoulders narrower, you do so by folding the pattern at the shoulders and down the front and back.  This is not a tailored or fitted design, so this is an easy adjustment to make and is illustrated in the pattern instructions.  To size smaller or larger, you move the side cut lines in or out as needed. When in doubt, cut big.  The side seams are the last thing you sew up before finishing, so it is easy to make minor alterations for fabric drape and final fine tuning.  Waists and hem lengths go up or down as needed. The pajama pants are sized in the side seams and the crotch length up or down at the waist.  Cut big because you will do the fitting on your body before sewing the side seams and finishing.

Fabric Suggestions
The fiber type you choose can be about anything from cotton, silk, washed linen, rayon, or poly blends, or a soft wool. The jacket or vest can be a heavier fabric with more body and less drape.  Something suitable for outer wear.  The dress should be made from fabric with soft to medium drape and a tight weave. The design is unstructured.  You want the drop waist to not drag out and hang uneven.  The “dress-with-legs” can be lighter weight (especially if you are making it for summer) but also choose a stable weave. When picking fabric for the dress, “dress-with-legs” and gaucho pants, remember there is quite a bit of fabric around your waist. Pick fabric that is not going to be too bulky when softly gathered.  The heavier and stiffer the fabric, the more it will stand away from your body . . . not drape to it.  Keep this in mind also when picking fabric for the pajama pants.
